Subclass 476: Skilled—Recognised Graduate visa

The Subclass 476 skilled, recognised graduate visa allows foreign engineering graduates who have completed a degree or higher qualification from an accredited institution within the past 2 years to live and study in Australia for 18 months.

To be eligible for a Subclass 476 Skilled - Recognised Graduate visa you must: 

You must be under the age of 31 years to be eligible for this visa

You must not have previously been the primary holder of a:

  • Temporary graduate visa (Subclass 485) or
  • Skilled recognised graduate visa (Subclass 476)

 

to apply for this visa.

You must have completed an engineering course (a degree or higher qualification) in the last 2 years. This could be a:

  • bachelors degree
  • masters degree
  • doctoral degree
  • postgraduate diploma

 

This qualification must be in an engineering discipline, such as:

  • civil engineering
  • structural engineering
  • chemical engineering
  • environmental engineering
  • electrical and electronics engineering
  • mechanical, production and plant engineering
  • mining and material engineering

You must have completed your engineering qualification at a specified educational institution.

  • Washington Accord Accredited: Any institution offering an Engineering qualification accredited under the Washington Accord is a specified institution.
  • Washington Accord Affiliated: If you studied at an institution or college that is only affiliated with a Washington Accord specified institution, you would not satisfy this requirement.

You must either meet the required level of English Competency or have the passport from the following countries:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • Republic of Ireland

 

Alternatively, you can also evidence your English proficiency by showing that you achieved the below scores in the last 3 years

You and family members aged 16 years and over who apply for the visa with you must meet the Department’s health and character requirements.

    Can I stay longer than 18 months with this visa?

    No, this is a temporary visa with a validity of 18 months. You will have to apply for a new visa if you wish to stay longer.

    Can I receive a bridging visa if I apply for the visa in Australia?

     if you are in Australia when you apply, you will not be eligible for a Bridging visa to remain in Australia while the Department process your application.

    Can I be in Australia when the visa is granted?

    When the visa is granted, you must be outside Australia.
