Subclass 600 - Tourist Visa

Visitor Visa Australia stream allows you to bring family and friends to Australia or undertake business activities for a specified period.

Other types of tourist visas include:

  • Subclass 651 - E Visitor Visa: This visa enables eligible passport holders to stay in Australia as often as they wish in 12 months. 
  • Subclass 601 Visa The Australian ETA (also known as the Subclass 601 Visa) is a temporary electronic permit, allowing eligible and approved passport holders to travel to Australia for tourism purposes.

Visitor Visa Australia Eligibility

To be eligible for an onshore tourist visa, you must: 

  • Be in Australia;
  • Be a genuine visitor in Australia;
  • Meet the health and character requirement;
  • Have adequate financials; and
  • Not have a Condition 8503 attached to the visa. 

To be eligible for an offshore tourist visa, you must: 

  • Be outside Australia;
  • Be a genuine visitor in Australia;
  • Meet the health and character requirement; and
  • Have adequate financials.

To be eligible for this visa, you must:

  • Be a genuine visitor travelling to Australia for business visitor activities;
  • Meet the health and character requirement; and
  • Have adequate financials

To be eligible for this visa, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China;
  • Intend to travel to Australia as part of a tour organised by an approved travel agent;
  • Be a genuine visitor in Australia;
  • Meet the health and character requirement; and
  • Have adequate financials.

To be eligible for this visa, you must:

  • Hold a passport from and be a citizen of the People's Republic of China;
  • Be a genuine visitor in Australia;
  • Meet the health and character requirement; and
  • Have adequate financials.

Types of Subclass 600
Tourist Visa Application

There are six different types of tourist visa application that you can apply to come to Australia. 

Tourist Visa (Applying from Australia)

This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to see family and friends or for purposes other than business or medical treatment.

Tourist Visa (Applying outside Australia)

This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise or to see family and friends.

Business Tourist Visa

This visa stream lets you visit Australia for business reasons.

Sponsored Visitor Stream

This visa stream lets people who are sponsored, usually by a family member, come to Australia to visit their family members.

Approved Destination Status Stream

This visa stream is for citizens from certain areas of China visiting Australia on a tour organised by an approved travel agent.

Frequent Traveller Stream

This visa stream is for citizens of the People's Republic of China who travel often to Australia for business or personal reasons.

Steps to Obtain a Visitor Visa

Getting the Tourist Visa (subclass 600) is a three-stage process which goes as follows:

STEP 1: Consult with our Agents to determine your eligibility for a Subclass 600 visa. 

To begin your application, our Registered Migration Agents will assess your eligibility for the visa, and advise you of possible visa pathways to visit Australia temporarily. 

STEP 2: Gather your Documents 

Once our agents deem you eligible for a tourist visa, they will provide you with a custom checklist for a tourist visa to support your application, and submit a decision ready application to the Department. 

STEP 3: Wait for Visa Grant

Once the necessary application and documents are finalised, our Agents will apply for your visa. We may advise you to undertake health or police checks, if it is required for your application.

    Can I work on a Tourist Visa?

    Tourist visa does not have any work rights. However, you may be able to apply for work rights once you have applied for a tourist visa onshore. 

    Can I extend my Tourist Visa?

    You may be able to extend your Subclass 600, by applying for another visa, as long as your visa does not have a condition 8503 attached to it.          

    Can I travel to Australia without a travel ban?

    Fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents and visa holders can travel to and from Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption.

    Unvaccinated visa holders may still need to be in an exempt category or hold an individual travel exemption to enter Australia.

    COVID-19 Concessions for Tourist Visa

    CURRENT TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

    Fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents and visa holders can travel to and from Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption.

    Unvaccinated visa holders may still need to be in an exempt category or hold an individual travel exemption to enter Australia. 

    APPLYING FOR A NEW VISITOR VISA

    You can apply for a new Subclass 600 (except in the Frequent Traveller stream) with no fee (VAC waiver) if:

    • you are outside Australia and
    • you hold, or have previously held, a Visitor (subclass 600) visa that:
      • Department granted outside Australia before 21 March 2020
      • expired, or will expire, between 20 March 2020 and 30 June 2022 
      • your visa was a multiple entry visa or a single entry visa that was not used for travel to Australia

    You must make your new application online through ImmiAccount by 31 December 2022.
