Subclass 888 - Significant Investor Stream

This visa allows Subclass 188 – Significant Investor visa holders to continue your investment activities in Australia permanently.

With this visa, you can:

  • Continue your investment and business activities that you may have started under your Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa.
  • Stay permanently in Australia.
  • Study and work in Australia

Subclass 888 - Significant Investor stream Eligibility

To be eligible for a Subclass 888 (Permanent) visa- Significant Investor stream, you must: 

You must either be: 

  • the primary holder of Subclass 188 –  in the Significant Investor stream for 3 years if invited to apply on or after July 1st, 2021; or
  • the primary holder of Subclass 188 –  in the Significant Investor Extension stream; or
  • be the secondary visa holder of Subclass 188 and your spouse or de facto partner is the primary holder of Subclass 188 in the Investor stream. You must have held the visa for at least 3 years, if you were invited to apply for the visa on or after 1 July 2021.

You must have a current and valid nomination from a state or territory.

When the Subclass 188 – Significant Investor Stream visa is granted, you must have invested AUD 5 million in ‘complying investment’.

To be able to receive the  Business innovation and investment (permanent) visa, you must,

  •  have held a ‘complying investment’ (if your subclass 188 visa  application was made before 1 July 2015) or a ‘complying significant investment’ (if your subclass 188 visa application was made on or after 1 July 2015) for the duration of the visa,
  • inform about the times (if any) during which you have transferred funds from one investment to another.

You must have at least Functional English to be eligible to apply for this visa.

You must meet one of the following residence requirements, 

  • have held the Subclass 188 in the Significant Investor stream for 4 continuous years or
  • have held Subclass 188 in the:
    • Significant Investor stream; and
    • one or more Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) Significant Investor Extension stream for 4 continuous years; or
  • have held Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) in the Significant Investor stream applied for before 1 July 2015, for a continuous period of 3 years and 11 months

You or your partner must not have been involved in any business activities or investments unacceptable in Australia

You must have a realistic commitment to continuing your business and investment activities in Australia.

You and family members aged 16 years or over who apply for the visa with you must meet the health and character requirements.

    From where can I apply for this visa?

    You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa and when we decide on your application, but not in immigration clearance.

    What are the other conditions in which I can apply for this visa?

    You can also apply if you are the secondary visa holder of a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) and your spouse or de facto partner is the primary holder of a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) in the Investor stream. If your spouse or de facto partner who is the primary visa holder was invited to apply for their original Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) on or after 1 July 2021, you must have held your visa for at least 3 years.

    For how long is the travel component of this visa valid?

    You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want for 5 years from the date the visa is granted.

    If you want to travel after the initial 5-year travel facility:

    • you will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return (RRV) so that you can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
    Do I need to pay extra if the secondary applicant does not meet the English requirements?

    You might have to pay an extra charge for any dependent applicant 18 years old or older who do not meet the English requirements.

    Can I add family members in this visa?

    You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply. You can also add children to your application at any time before the decision on the application is made.
