Subclass 858: Global Talent visa

The Subclass 858 visa is a global talent visa for highly skilled professionals to live and work permanently in Australia.

With this visa, you can:

  • Live and study/work full-time in Australia
  • Apply for Medicare
  • Sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • Bring your Immediate family with you to Australia permanently.
  • Apply for Citizenship once eligible. 

Subclass 858 - Global Talent visa Eligibility

To be eligible for a Subclass 858- Global Talent visa, you must: 

You must be a highly skilled professional in one of the target sectors,

  • Resources
  • Agri-food and Ag Tech
  • Energy
  • Health Industries
  • Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
  • Circular Economy
  • DigiTech
  • Infrastructure and Tourism
  • Financial services and Fin Tech
  • Education

To be eligible you must,

  • prove you are internationally recognised with ​evidence of outstanding achievements.
  • still be prominent in their field of expertise
  • provide evidence that you would be an asset to Australia, in their area of expertise
  • have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field
  • have a recognised organisation or individual with a national reputation in the same field in Australia nominate them as global talent.
  • Show exceptional track record

Candidates should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high income threshold of AUD162,000

Your current salary shown through payslips or a contract and future job offers outlining remuneration will be considered.

You must be nominated by an eligible person or organisation with national reputation in same field as yours.

National reputation’ refers to an opinion by the Australian public or industry community that the nominator is a leader, with a record of excellence in their field.

 

At the time of invitation, you must have at least competent English.

To prove you have competent English, provide evidence:

  1. that you are a citizen of and hold a valid passport issued by the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland, with your application. *British National (Overseas) passports are not acceptable as evidence of competent English; OR
  2. you have an obtained one of the following English language test results

    Do I need to have an Australian Employment offer?

    No, You do not need an Australian Employment offer to be eligible to apply for Subclass 858.

    Does the nominator have to employ me in order to apply for this visa?

    Nominators do not have to employ you. Nominators give evidence of:

    • their status in Australia
    • their national reputation in your field
    • your achievements and international standing on Nomination for Global Talent- form 1000 
    Can I apply for Subclass 858 directly?

    No, you must receive a unique invitation reference identifier and an invitation code from the Department of Home Affairs to apply for a Subclass 858 visa. 

    Is there any special condition where I do not need a nominator to apply?

    You do not need a nominator if you have been endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Global Business and Talent Attraction. ​You will be contacted by the Global Talent Visa Program if you have received Special Envoy endorsement.

    How long can I stay in Australia with this visa?

    This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely. The visa has a travel component that expires 5 years after the date of visa grant.

    When will the travel validity of this visa expire?

    After five years you must apply for a resident return visa, so you can travel freely in and out of the country. A resident return visa is granted only to extend the travel condition upon your global talent visa 858. If you leave the country after your travel facility expires, you cannot re-enter as a permanent resident.
