Subclass 485: Graduate Visa – Skills Assessment and Nominated Occupation

The Department has also announced Temporary opportunities for Graduate Stream applicants to apply for a Subclass 485 visa without requiring occupations to be on the Skilled Occupation Lists and not requiring skills assessments.

Upon the current rule, Subclass 485 applicants must:

  • Nominate an occupation from the skills assessment list;
  • provide a positive skills assessment to be granted a Subclass 485 – Temporary Graduate visa. 


However, from 01 July 2022 onwards, new applications does not require applicants to nominate an occupation at the time of application nor to provide a suitable skills assessment.  

In addition, the stay period on the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa Graduate Work stream will increase from 18 to 24 months.
