Course changes on Subclass 500 are now prohibited without Minister approval

Australian International Students (.ie. ; Student Visa Holders), will no longer be able to change their courses without approval from the Minister.

Approval for course change will be provided only once you receive a positive assessment from the competent Australian authorities outlining that you are not likely to be directly or indirectly a risk to Australian national security.

The Minister, in approving the request, will analyse whether there is an unreasonable risk of unwanted transfer of critical technology by the visa holder. If there is, the changes could also likely result in the cancellation of the visa.

The condition 8303 will aim to restrict individuals from actively engaging or promoting extremist views and interrupting the operation of the Australian community.

It is anticipated that these changes would eventually apply to majority of visa subclasses, pending the changes in July 2022.

The two new visa conditions only apply to student visas received after July 1, 2022. Applications received or approved before this date will not be affected by the new changes.

If you are unsure that these changes apply to you, please check your visa conditions using VEVO.
