Subclass 485 - Graduate Stream Eligibility

To be eligible for a Subclass 485 - Graduate Visa application, you must:

    • be under 50 years of age
    • hold an eligible visa
    • have held a student visa in the last 6 months
    • have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list
    • have applied for a skills assessment in your nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list
    • provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply
    • provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply
    • provide evidence of the required level of English with the application

Graduate Work stream

This intake begins in March and is the major intake for students.

Post Study Work Stream

This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily.

Second Post-Study Work Stream

This visa is for holders of a first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream who graduated with a degree from an Australian institution located in a regional area. It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily

To begin your 485 visa journey, you begin with by applying for relevant documents, such as AFPCC and Health Insurance, before applying for the visa.

    Yes, Subclass 485 provides full working rights. 

    When can former and current Temporary Graduate re-enter Australia?

    The Government will make changes to allow entry of current and former Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa holders from 18 February 2022, to allow them to re-enter Australia and apply for a further stay.

    Student Visa during COVID times

    Increase of Visa Stay 

    The Department has increased the length of stay for Subclass 485 – Post Study visa holders from two to three years. VET sector graduates have also been temporarily raised from 18 to 24 months.

    Unfortunately, this does not translate to individuals already on a Subclass 485 visa. 

    Skills Assessment and Nominated Occupation

    The Department has also announced Temporary opportunities for Graduate Stream applicants to apply for a Subclass 485 visa without requiring occupations to be on the Skilled Occupation Lists and not requiring skills assessments.

    Offshore Study

    The Department has also introduced temporary measures for students and recent graduates to have time spent offshore studying online to be recognised towards qualifying for Temporary Graduate visas
