CHANGES TO THE PARENT VISA APPLICATION PROCESS

In recognition of the continued impact Covid_19 is having on travel, and immigration, the Federal Government has announced changes to the Parent, Contributory Parent (subclass 173) and Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa requirements.

These changes will enable parents, who meet the criteria, to make their visa applications within Australia, rather than having to return to their home country and submit their applications.

“…The Government is pursuing changes to allow certain parent visa applicants who have applied for their visa outside Australia to be granted that visa while in Australia during the COVID-19 period…

“…This temporary concession would apply to parent visa subclasses and will allow eligible applicants who are in Australia and unable to travel offshore due to COVID-19 impacts to be granted that visa…”

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said the changes would come into effect in the first quarter of 2021, however, there would not be a change to the caping of the number of parent visas issued, for this financial year.
