Date: 01 March 2026
From 1 March, the cost of applying for a Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) has doubled, increasing from $2,300 to $4,600 for primary applicants.
The Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa is a post-study work visa that allows eligible international students to remain in Australia temporarily after completing their studies.
It provides:
Full work rights
The ability to gain skilled employment experience
Time to improve English, complete skills assessments, or increase migration points
A pathway to explore permanent residency options
For many graduates, the 485 visa is a critical stepping stone between studying in Australia and applying for skilled migration or employer-sponsored visas.
As of 1 March, the base application charge for primary applicants has increased from $2,300 to $4,600. This represents a 100 per cent increase in the application cost.
This latest increase follows earlier adjustments:
1 February 2025: $1,945 → $2,235
1 July 2025: $2,235 → $2,300
1 March (current change): $2,300 → $4,600
The consistent rise in visa application charges highlights a clear trend: migration costs are increasing, and applicants must budget carefully.
Note: Lower visa cost applies to eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens who lodge a valid TGV application. Please refer to the individual TGV streams for further details.
