Date: 06 January 2025
Starting 1 January 2025, students applying for a Student visa from within Australia must include a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at the time of application. The Department of Home Affairs will no longer accept Letters of Offer for onshore Student visa applications.
Previously, you could submit a Student visa application with a Letter of Offer and provide the CoE later. However, from 1 Jan 2025, you must attach your CoE when you lodge your application—with minor exceptions.
If you apply without a CoE:
Your visa application will be invalid under regulation 2.07 of the Migration Regulations 1994.
The Department cannot process the application.
You will not be granted a Bridging visa, potentially putting you at risk of becoming unlawful.
The requirement for a CoE at time of application does not apply to:
Foreign Affairs students
Defence-sponsored students
Secondary exchange students
These groups may continue to provide alternative evidence of enrolment as defined under their respective policy arrangements.
