skills assessment Engineers Australia – Migration Agents Update

This is a busy time of year! Recent changes in the 457 visa policy in April have raised multiple debates and the review of the Strategic Skills List is underway to take effect on the 1st July 2017. The end of financial year is approaching and with it the usual frenzy.

Occupations List – How do the changes impact us?

Like all of you, we are waiting for the result of the review of the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). The reviewed list will be effective from the 1st July 2017.

Please note that if you apply for an assessment now, there is always a risk that the occupation will be removed from the MLTSSL. All applications will be assessed even if the occupation is removed from the MLTSSL. Note however that applications lodged now are unlikely to be processed before the 1st July 2017. Unfortunately, the uncertainty about the skills occupation list affects all applicants and does not justify priority processing.

Processing Times

In an effort to reduce the processing time of all applications, the Engineers Australia Migration Skills Assessment team now has an increased number of assessors.

The current waiting times are:

– Australian Qualifications & Accords Qualifications Assessment: 7.5 weeks
– Australian Qualifications & Accords Qualifications Assessment with Fast Track: 15 working days
– Competency Demonstration Report: 17 weeks
– Competency Demonstration Report with Fast Track: 23 working days

The team is working hard to continue to reduce the waiting times for all customers.

System Error?

It has been brought to our attention that some customers may be experiencing a ‘502 Wrong Gateway’ system error. Our technical team are currently working on a solution and this issue will be resolved soon. We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing.

Outcome Letter Verification

The outcome letter verification service was previously unavailable for several months. The issue causing instability in our system has been resolved and the letter verification service is available again here.
