STUDENT VISAS

A student visa is required for people who are not Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents to study in Australia.

A student visa will be granted only if you wish to undertake a registered course or part of a registered course on a full-time basis. AustMSS is registered with some of the Universities in Melbourne and can assist on student visa applications

Student visa categories :

Subclass 571 - Primary, Secondary schools and approved secondary exchange programme

Subclass 572 - Certificate I, II, III and IV, Diploma and Adanced Diploma

Subclass 573 - Higher Educations comprising of Bachelor, Associate degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters

Subclass 574 - Postgraduate Research comprising of Masters Research and Doctorate

Subclass 575 - Other courses not leading to an Australian award

Subclass 576 - AusAID and Defence students sponsored by the Australian Government

Subclass 570 - English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) not leading to award.

Working while studying in Australia

When a student visa is initially granted, there will not have any work rights. However after commencement of studies, you and your family can apply for work rights. Once granted, you may only work up to 20 hours a week during term period and unlimited hours during vacation. There is a mandatory cancellation of student visa if the work rights are misused.
